County has 34 cities and covers an area of 798 square miles, stretching
from the Pacific Ocean to the Santa Ana Mountains. With eight cities in
the 30 mile Hollywood zone, Orange County is nearby the center of the
entertainment industry. It hosts a professional crewbase and many film
related support services and businesses.
Our region with its superb Mediterranean climate (sunny 80% of the year and rainfall averaging only 12-14 inches) is ideal for filming any time of the year. Orange County's terrain is diverse, with 42 miles of coastline offering beach cities, piers, oceanfront mansions, and harbors. The mountain areas and many regional parks have forests, lakes, miles of open roads, and historic buildings from the 1800's. Architecture and cityscapes run from rural small villages to modern urban settings. Tollbooths, John Wayne Airport, closed military bases with hangars, and receptive neighborhoods are available for picture. Three large universities are ready for futuristic television commercials, movies about campuses or sporting events, and will provide interns for production companies The Orange County Film Commission coordinates all on location productions
